How to check the status of an Emirates ID application in the UAE - Makebiz

Emirates ID is a mandatory identification card that is issued by the Federal Agency for Identification, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP) United Arab Emirates. It plays a key role in the lives of the country’s citizens and residents. The document stores personal data, biometric information and information about your place of residence, serving as an official confirmation of your identity throughout the country. In this article, we will look at why you need an Emirates ID, how to check the status of your application for it, and common problems that users may encounter.

The EID is an important document that is required to perform many everyday activities, for example:

  • Opening of bank accounts.
  • Employment verification and payroll (relevant for a work visa).
  • Access to medical services and insurance.
  • Telecommunication services: for connecting to internet services and utilities.
  • Government and online services: paying taxes or obtaining various permits.

The process of issuing an Emirates ID begins with submitting an application to the Federal Agency for Identification, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP). You will need to provide a number of documents, including:

— Passport.

— A photo.

— A completed application form.

After submitting your application, you will be assigned a date to undergo a medical examination and biometric identification, which includes fingerprinting and photographing.

In order to find out what stage the process is at, you can easily check the status of your application in several ways:

1. Go to the official ICP website, select the «Application Status» option in the «Public Services» section. Enter the necessary information: passport number, validity period and your nationality. After entering the data, you will see the current status, as well as information about what stage it is at (approval, printing, dispatch) and the expected dates of its readiness and delivery.

2. After receiving the receipt from ICP, you can track the status of your ID not only according to the passport data, but also using the application number (PRAN) and the unique identifier (UID).

3. For the convenience of users, the ICP mobile application has been developed, available on Android and iOS platforms. With it, you can also easily check the status of your EID by simply entering your passport number, application number, or UID.

The time required to issue the certificate depends on the type of application:

— The first receipt usually takes from 7 to 10 business days.

— It will take from 5 to 7 business days to renew the ID.

— In case of replacement for any reason — from 3 to 5 working days.

You may encounter some problems when checking the status. Let’s highlight the most common of them:

1. The passport number was not found.

Possible reasons: the visa has not been issued yet, the application has not been submitted, or you have entered incorrect passport data.

2. The status is not updated.

Possible reasons: delays in the ICP system, a large volume of applications, or the need for additional verification. If the status is not updated for a long time, it is recommended to wait 24-48 hours or contact the ICP support service for clarification.

Emirates ID is an important element of residence in the UAE, which is issued on the basis of a visa for various reasons and provides access to a variety of services and opportunities in the country. Do not forget to check the status of your application on the official ICP website to stay informed of all changes and stages of the process.
