1. The law prohibits the employment of persons under 15 years of age. Persons between 15 and 18 years of age may work part-time but must obtain a work permit for minors from MoHRE and are subject to certain restrictions. For example, they cannot be employed at night, at hazardous work sites or in tasks that may be harmful to their health.

2. Adults seeking part-time employment must have a valid UAE resident visa. Foreigners on a family visa are also eligible to apply for part-time work. A no objection certificate from the main sponsor is sometimes required.

3. Article 18 of the Cabinet Resolution guarantees the receipt of annual leave in proportion to the time worked. The length of leave is calculated relative to the total number of hours worked, ensuring fair entitlement.

4. Article 30 sets out the calculation of benefits when employment is terminated on the basis of contractual working hours. However, it is important to note that temporary workers hired for less than one year are not eligible for separation benefits. 

Therefore, in order to obtain a part-time work permit, you will need:

  • trade licences of the primary and secondary employers, 
  • a recent colour photograph, 
  • academic qualifications, if required, 
  • letter of consent from the relevant authority, if applicable,
  • NOC from the primary sponsor and a copy of the visa.

A secondary employer is charged a permit application fee which includes both application and approval fees. A second employer must collect the necessary documents and submit them to MoHRE. The Ministry intends to process these applications within two working days, either through its online system or through service centres.

The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) oversees these regulations, ensuring compliance and protecting the interests of all parties involved. Both employers and part-time employees must adhere to the provisions of Emirati labour law.
