How to apply for and obtain a Schengen visa to Dubai, UAE - Makebiz

A Schengen visa is a unique opportunity that allows tourists to visit any of the 27 member states of the Schengen area for up to 90 days. It is usually used for tourism, business and transit purposes, but does not entitle you to work or reside in the member states.

Among them are popular destinations: Austria, Greece, Spain, Sweden and others. This is a great opportunity for tourists to get acquainted with the rich cultural heritage, iconic landmarks and diverse landscapes of the regions. From visiting historic sites in Rome to savoring culinary delights in Paris, the possibilities are endless.

When applying for a visa, it’s worth familiarizing yourself with the types of visas depending on your nationality and the purpose of your visit:

  • For stays of up to 90 days within a 180-day period, there are two categories: the “A” for airport transit and the “C” for a short stay in a territory with different entry options.
  • A visa with limited territorial validity allows travel only within the country of issue or to specifically designated countries.
  • The latter type of visa is suitable for extended stays. A single entry is for a specific period of time, while a multiple entry allows freedom of movement within the Schengen area without additional authorizations.

The first step for a tourist is to collect documents and fill out a visa application form in the appropriate embassy of the desired country. Then there will be an interview in a specialized center and waiting for a decision on issuance.

First, it is important to provide a passport with a long period of validity. Next — bank statements to demonstrate financial stability and the ability to provide for themselves during the trip. Documents that prove accommodation, such as a hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from the host country, will also be required.

It is important to have medical insurance that can cover emergency care and repatriation costs, if necessary. It is also worth preparing a cover letter explaining the purpose of the trip. Here you can attach any supporting documents: airline tickets, detailed itinerary, etc. It is advisable to submit your application well in advance, as it may take several weeks to process.

The Schengen visa fee is mandatory for each applicant and is non-refundable. The cost depends on the type of visa, the age of the applicant and the country of visit. Most often the amount varies between AED 300 and AED 500. VFS charges an additional fee of AED 100.

The normal time to obtain a visa is between 10 and 30 working days in certain cases (not including public holidays).

Having the opportunity to freely visit popular tourist destinations, one should not forget to respect the countries’ culture and the need to comply with local laws. You should always have your identity documents and visa with you.
