1. Collecting documents and submitting an application to government agencies 

To apply, you will need a passport, photos, and proof of foundation. For example, a business license, proof of purchase of real estate, employment contract, etc. 

2. Obtaining an entry permit or changing the status of stay

If you are outside the UAE at the time of submitting your application, you will only be able to enter for further stages after receiving approval for the application – Entry Permit. If you are already in the country, then to change the purpose of your stay (for example, from tourism to work), the procedure for changing the status of your stay is started. 

3. Medical examination

Upon entering the Emirates, you will have to undergo a medical examination. an institution that includes blood tests and fluorography. This is required for all citizens from the age of 18. It is important to remember that the presence of diseases that pose a danger to public health can lead to a refusal to apply for residency (HIV, tuberculosis, etc.).

4. Issuing a local identity card 

After receiving the medical certificate, you must apply for an Emirates ID. Biometric data (fingerprints and photo) will be submitted here.

The EID is a key document for residents that allows them to identify themselves and access various services in the country.

Despite the fact that the procedure for obtaining residency in the UAE is considered quite accessible and simplified, in practice applicants often face refusals. There are a number of typical reasons that are important to consider in advance:

  • Incorrectly selected visa category that does not correspond to the actual status or goals of the applicant.

The extension of a resident visa is possible provided that the grounds for residence in the country are preserved. The renewal procedure usually includes a second medical examination, a reissue of the Emirates ID, as well as confirmation of the valid reason for residence (employment, business, investment, etc.).
