Simplification of the process of recognition of foreign diplomas in the UAE - Makebiz

In recent years, the United Arab Emirates has become an increasingly attractive destination for students and professionals from different countries. One of the key factors contributing to this process is the initiative of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research on the «Zero Government Bureaucracy» program. It aims to radically simplify the recognition of foreign academic qualifications, which, in turn, creates more favorable conditions for foreign citizens wishing to study and work in the country. Let’s look at the main directions of the program in the article.

1. Reducing bureaucracy

One of the most significant changes was the reduction in the number of required documents for the recognition of foreign diplomas from 14 to 4. This 70% reduction in the paper load greatly facilitates the application process and makes it more accessible to international students. Now, for successful recognition of qualifications, it is enough to provide only four mandatory forms, which is a real breakthrough in the fight against excessive bureaucracy.

2. Increasing the number of recognized qualifications

After the pilot launch of the reform, the number of successfully recognized academic qualifications increased from 5,780 to 12,180. This more than twofold increase highlights the effectiveness of the new measures and their attractiveness to students from different countries. In addition, the share of refusals of recognition decreased from 8.3% to 3.5%, which indicates an increase in the quality and transparency of the process.

3. Speed of application processing

The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research has also introduced new standards for the processing speed of applications. Now, most requests are processed within 5-10 business days, which allows students to receive the necessary information faster and make decisions about their future. This is especially important in a dynamically changing world where time plays a key role.

4. Digitalization

Modern technologies play an important role in simplifying bureaucratic procedures. As part of the reform, a digital platform was created where applications are submitted online. In the near future, it is planned to introduce intelligent verification based on artificial intelligence, which will further speed up the process and increase its reliability.

5. Transparency and security

One of the key features of the reform is the increased transparency of the qualifications recognition mechanism. The introduction of secure registries is aimed at combating forgery of diplomas and other documents. This creates additional guarantees for both students and educational institutions, strengthening trust in the system.

6. Attracting international students and specialists

Easier recognition of academic qualifications is expected as an important step towards attracting more international students and professionals to the UAE. This, in turn, will strengthen the country’s position as a global educational center and accelerate graduates’ entry into the labor market. It is expected that the reforms will create favorable conditions for the integration of specialists into the country’s economy, which will contribute to its further development.

The reform of the recognition of foreign academic qualifications in the UAE is an important step towards simplifying bureaucratic processes and increasing transparency in the education system. Reducing the number of required documents, increasing the processing speed of applications and the introduction of modern technologies create favorable conditions for international students and specialists. It is expected that these changes will not only improve the image of the Emirates as an educational center, but also contribute to the economic growth of the country as a whole.
