How to pass the RERA exam and get a broker card - Makebiz

Passing the RERA exam to get a broker card is an important step for professionals who wish to work in the Dubai property sector. It is important to understand the eligibility criteria, the registration process and the content of the exam.

The Real Estate Regulatory Authority exam assesses the candidate’s knowledge and understanding of real estate laws, regulations and practices specific to Dubai. There is a computer-based test that includes multiple-choice questions. These cover key areas: legislation, property brokerage, property management, escrow rules and dispute resolution mechanisms. The exam is administered at authorised testing centres, providing a standardised assessment process for all aspiring real estate professionals.

Passing the exam is a prerequisite for the licence you must hold to work in the real estate and construction market. The certificate confirms your competence in understanding the legal and regulatory framework of the industry and increases your credibility with clients.

To pass the test, candidates must fulfil certain qualifications stipulated by RERA. These criteria include level of education, relevant experience in the real estate industry and completion of specific training programmes. Candidates are advised to familiarise themselves with the Agency’s objectives and guidelines, which focus on consumer protection, fair practices, transparency and professionalism in the industry.

In addition, you should have a good understanding of market indicators, government policies, economic trends and global market dynamics that affect the Dubai property market.

To appear for the exam, you need to fill out an online form, attach personal and professional documents and pay the fee. The date and time of the upcoming test is sent to the specified mail. You need to bring your ID card and proof of registration for the exam with you.

The test is conducted on computers in English. In some cases, it may be conducted online through Zoom. Once completed, you can access your results on the Dubai Land Department website. A score of 75 or above is considered a success.  If for some reason you are unable to pass the exam the first time, there will be a second (free) attempt. Further retakes are paid.

If you pass the test successfully, you will be issued a personal broker card, which allows you to operate legally in the real estate industry.
